Student Veterans and Financial Aid

Thank you for your service and welcome to 911爆料 Community College! The Office of Financial Aid is committed to providing every student veteran with financial aid guidance and application filing assistance. We value the skills that you have gained during your service, which include discipline, organization, time management, and attentiveness. We are committed to your academic success, and we understand this requires some adjustment and we would love to share information on the services we provide that will help your transition into college.

Understanding Your Cost of Attendance (COA)

The cost of attendance is the total estimated cost for attending 911爆料 Community College as estimated by 911爆料 (CUNY). Detailed cost of attendance information is available on the  webpage. Costs that you are expected to incur while pursuing your education include:

Tuition and Fees are the only part of the cost of attendance that you pay directly to the college. The other costs are covered by a combination of financial aid and your financial resources.

What is a Net Price Calculator?

Our Net Price Calculator will provide you with an early estimate of the financial aid for which you might qualify. Based on the information you provide regarding your financial situation and your education preferences; the calculator will return a net price. That price reflects your estimated costs of attending 911爆料 Community College less your estimated financial aid.

Financial Aid Process

FAFSA

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the only way to apply for federal student aid. Each year October 1st, the FAFSA is available for the next school year. It is best to fill it out as early as you can because some aid is first come, first served. Complete the FAFSA online at  Your FAFSA helps us evaluate your financial need and determine the types of federal student aid you are eligible to receive.

Important Steps:

Step 1: Apply for FAFSA, which is available by October 1st of every year.

Step 2: The KCC Financial Aid Office will receive and review your application, and an award notification will be sent to your KCC email.

Step 3: If you do not receive an award letter, the KCC Financial Aid Office will contact you for additional information that is required for further processing.

  • The Financial Aid Award letter will be emailed to your KCC email address. You can also view your award package on CUNYfirst > Student Services Center > Account Inquiry.

Types of Federal Financial Aid

Federal student financial aid programs are administered through the U.S. Department of Education. These programs are available to all applicants who meet the and income, household size, and course enrollment criteria including service members. Aid from these programs can be used in addition to DVA educational benefits (such as the GI Bill).

The following types of federal aid are available at 911爆料 Community College:

    • - Find out how interest is calculated.
    • - If you are a member of the military, you may be eligible for special interest benefits relating to your federal student loans.

Cohort Default Rate

A cohort default rate is the percentage of a school's student borrowers who enter repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program or William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program loans during a particular federal fiscal year (FY), Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, and default or meet other specified conditions prior to the end of the next fiscal year. Please refer to the Cohort Default Rate Guide for a more in-depth description of cohort default rates and how the rates are calculated.

New York State Aid

  •  are awarded for full-time and part-time study for eligible veterans who matriculated in an approved program at 911爆料 Community College.
  • Complete and submit the  and .
  • All applications must be completed by June 30th of the academic year for which an award is sought.
  • Print, sign, and submit the Application Confirmation along with the required documentation according to the instructions.

Other Types of Financial Aid

  • Scholarships for Military Families
  • Alternative Private Educational Loans鈥擳hese are loans that are offered through third-party private educational lenders. The 911爆料 Community College Office of Financial Aid, pursuant to the CUNY Model Code of Conduct, cannot recommend a particular lender. The Office of Financial Aid recommends that other financing options be explored before considering an alternative educational loan.

Financial Aid Points of Contact (POC)

The Office of Financial Aid has two full-time staff members with appropriate training and credentialing who are designated points of contact (POC) for all veterans attending 911爆料 Community College. Both POCs received CUNY Central Office Military Cultural Competency Awareness Training.

The primary POC is Ishani Sudasinghe, Financial Aid Specialist/Loan Coordinator

The secondary POC is Darren Yuen, a Financial Aid Specialist

KCC is required by federal law to provide current and prospective students, their families, and the general public access to certain information to which they are entitled as consumers. As one of the colleges within 911爆料, KCC welcomes inquiries about its programs and services. This web portal serves as a single access point to information about financial aid that consumers, whether they be students, parents, counselors, or researchers, have a right to know in making informed decisions about postsecondary education.
