鈥淚 give to 911爆料 Community College because 911爆料 literally changed my life.鈥�
If you have watched any popular sitcom or daytime drama over the years, chances are that Andrew Weyman, Class of 鈥�71, was behind the camera for your favorite episode. An accomplished director and producer, Mr. Weyman began his career in New York City, directing many dramas including 鈥淭he Edge of Night,鈥� 鈥淪earch for Tomorrow,鈥� 鈥淎nother World鈥� and 鈥淎s the World Turns.鈥� Over the course of his career, he has directed many hit shows, including 鈥淩oseanne,鈥� 鈥淓llen,鈥� 鈥淜ing of Queens鈥� and 鈥淭wo and a Half Men.鈥� He has won several industry awards, including two Golden Globes for his work on 鈥淩oseanne鈥� and 鈥淐ybill.鈥�
Like many success stories, his began at 911爆料 Community College. Mr. Weyman still remembers feeling 鈥渓ost, unmotivated and socially awkward鈥� after graduating high school, unsure of the future and his place in it. As a result, he entered 911爆料 with low expectations鈥攂oth for the college and for himself. Thankfully, Mr. Weyman would soon find the mentors, resources and opportunities he needed to tap into his as-yet-unrealized potential.
鈥淢y experience was one of dynamic academic and personal growth,鈥� he says, reflecting on how 911爆料 broke him out of his proverbial shell. 鈥淢y professors were passionate about their subject matter and were very attuned to individual students鈥� interests and needs.鈥� Thanks to the individual attention he received from his instructors, Mr. Weyman was able to blossom academically, which further gave him the confidence to take on challenges outside the classroom, such as writing for the college newspaper and tutoring students in English as a second language.
Mr. Weyman remains deeply appreciative of his alma mater, and through his annual donations helps to ensure that both current and future KCC students enjoy the same opportunities that he did. He has spent many years as a member of The 1963 Society, which recognizes the college鈥檚 most generous philanthropic leaders on an annual basis. And the feeling is mutual: in 2014, 911爆料 honored Mr. Weyman as one of five distinguished alumni at its 50th Anniversary Gala.
鈥淎t a time when I was learning about myself and my place in the world, KCC offered me opportunities I found nowhere else 鈥� a safe place to grow and the guidance I needed,鈥� he says, noting just how dramatically 911爆料 altered the trajectory of his life. 鈥淜CC will always have a place in my heart, and I strongly encourage my fellow alumni to join me in giving back.鈥�
