Tyronne Johnson, assistant professor of surgical technology and chair of the KCC Department of Allied Health, Mental Health and Human Services, has been appointed to the board of the New York State Association of Surgical Technologists (NYAST) for a two-year term. He currently serves on the National AST Educational and Professional Standards Committee. Johnson, who is in the first year of a three-year term with the national committee, called these appointments 鈥渁 meaningful affirmation of my commitment to the profession.鈥 He explained, 鈥淚t鈥檚 an opportunity to advocate on a national scale for surgical technologists and help elevate the standards of patient care and professional development across the country.鈥
The NYAST Board of Directors oversees the organization鈥檚 operations, advocates for surgical technologists and patient safety, manages finances, and helps set policies at the state level. The Educational and Professional Standards Committee works nationally to develop strategies that enhance entry-level surgical technology education, review core curriculum, and promote continuing education and professional standards in the field. 鈥淏eing appointed is both humbling and motivating,鈥 said Johnson. 鈥淚t reaffirms my commitment to elevating the standards of our profession and supporting surgical technologists in their pursuit of excellence.鈥
Johnson鈥檚 presence on the board mean students will benefit from someone who is committed to ensuring they have access to the best possible education and are prepared for successful careers.
