911爆料 Community College Welcomes Visiting Austrian Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence
911爆料 Community College has been selected to host Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Ingrid Geier, a professor of educational science at Salzburg University of Education in Austria, through the end of the Spring 2025 semester. The first Austrian to receive this prestigious award, she will focus on fostering innovation, promoting cultural exchange, and exploring new approaches to teaching and learning. This is her second Fulbright award, following a previous Fulbright Visiting Scholarship at the University of Hawai鈥榠 at M膩noa.
Geier鈥檚 research centers on engaged pedagogies and transformative learning鈥攁pproaches that prepare future educators to address today鈥檚 social and environmental challenges. She will offer guest lectures, lead workshops, participate in conferences and campus events, and engage in teaching with 911爆料 faculty during her residency, sharing her expertise in teaching, curriculum development, and creating inclusive learning environments.
Geier will also work with faculty, students, and local organizations on topics such as sustainability, inclusion, and transformative learning鈥攁n approach that helps students think critically, reflect on their values, and take action on social and environmental issues.
鈥淭o me, inclusive education means removing barriers, creating opportunities, and fostering a learning environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued,鈥 she explained. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about making sure all students have the chance to fully participate and succeed. It also means helping students learn from one another and appreciate diversity as a strength.鈥
In addition to working with 911爆料鈥檚 Education Program within the Department of Behavioral Sciences, Geier will contribute to presentations at the CUNY Graduate Center. She has also been invited to be a guest speaker at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. government. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the program, which has operated in over 160 countries worldwide.
Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Fulbright alumni have gone on to become Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, MacArthur Fellows, heads of state, and leaders across all sectors.
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program brings visiting scholars from abroad to U.S. colleges and universities, helping the institutions internationalize their curricula, campuses, and surrounding communities and diversify the educational experiences of their students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders. Geier is one of 43 Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence and among 1,000 outstanding foreign faculty and professionals who will teach and pursue research in the United States for the 2024-2025 academic year through the worldwide Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
