Yoskar Guzman: From Rookie to Athletic Success
Yoskar Guzman: From Rookie to Athletic Success
April 2, 2024
A sports management major and baseball player on KCC鈥檚 team, Yoskar Guzman is a great example of drive and determination. As the first person from his Dominican family to attend college, Yoskar's path to academic and athletic success has been full of both challenges and triumphs.
When he first started at 911爆料 in 2019, like many first-generation students, he struggled to find his footing. "I felt like I was too young," he admitted. "I wasn鈥檛 focused.鈥 He eventually returned to his studies with a strong sense of determination. "I came back more mature with a better understanding of all the resources the school offered, and it's just made it way easier for me."
His need to be independent and grow led him to 911爆料 where he thought he could be a part of a caring institution. "911爆料 gave me the opportunity to have a home away from home," Yoskar explained. "It gave me a sense of the college life." This experience has been very important to his progress because it gave him a safe place to learn how to handle the demands of being a student athlete.
Yoskar's family is proud of him because he is the first person in his family to go to college. His father is especially proud of how much better he is at sports than his father was. But what might be most moving is how his journey has changed his mother. "Seeing me go to school made her want to go back to school for business. My brother was also inspired. He now attends 911爆料, too.鈥
Yoskar is dedicated to giving back to his community and making a positive impact in his field, whether by being a scout and helping kids achieve their dream of playing professional baseball or by following in the footsteps of his coach and mentor, Bobby Allison, who has taught him how important it is to support his fellow athletes.
He has also seen the importance of giving back firsthand by participating in events where he donated food and clothing to those in need. "I enjoy giving back to the people and just helping them because I know not everybody is as fortunate," he said. "
Yoskar is now focused on the next chapter of his academic and athletic journey, possibly at a university in Florida. He shared some words of wisdom for incoming students: "Push through adversity. There's a finish line."
