KCC To Offer Bootcamps To Meet The Tech Industry鈥檚 Growing Demand In The NYC Area

The field of technology is buzzing with employment opportunities. It is estimated there are more than 14,000 open software developer jobs in the NYC area alone. To help meet the local demand for skilled tech talent, Promineo Tech has teamed up with 911爆料 Community College鈥檚 Workforce Development, Continuing Education and Strategic Partnerships to offer several bootcamps at about half the cost of similar programs. Students can choose from 18-week front-end and back-end bootcamps and a 26-week data engineering bootcamp.

Bootcamp learning is an accelerated track to a career in technology. The curriculum is designed to arm students with the relevant skills most desired by hiring managers. Graduates will be ready to enter the workforce as highly competitive candidates for entry level roles within the booming tech industry.

鈥淚ncreasing accessibility to tech education is crucial at a time when there is a growing demand for tech talent,鈥 noted Christine Zagari LoPorto, interim assistant dean of KCC鈥檚 program. 鈥淚t is important for us to work towards closing the opportunity gap in New York鈥檚 tech economy and prepare workers for careers that can be ladders to the middle class.鈥

鈥淭hese courses are perfect for people seeking to increase skills in their current positions or looking to transition to a new career altogether,鈥 added KCC Vice President Dr. Simone Rodriguez.

One Front-End Bootcamp graduate shared, 鈥淚 have been on the job for five weeks and I can say that the front-end boot camp was excellent preparation for this job. It filled the gaping holes in my knowledge about web programming. I鈥檝e been using what I learned about JavaScript and React and CSS in boot camp every day.鈥

鈥淥ur bootcamp programs employ a unique learning model that enables students to become familiar with weekly topics through pre-recorded videos and then get personalized training from a live instructor to help solidify what they are learning,鈥 said Nick Suwyn, president of Promineo Tech. 鈥淭o help students succeed, we make sure to provide them with ample support channels. In addition to the materials and live class sessions, students can meet one-on-one weekly with a mentor, attend multiple open office hours, and receive text-based support via Slack.鈥

The virtual classroom fosters real connections between students and instructors, mentors and industry professionals, which enhances their learning and navigate their career path.

No experience is necessary to enroll in the courses. With a weekly schedule consisting of 1.5 hours of live, personally-tailored micro-lectures and an additional 13-18 hours of self-paced work, students with full-time jobs are able to complete the work.

Enrollment is currently underway for the back-end course beginning February 15. The Front-end and Big Data Engineering courses will be offered later this spring. To learn more about attending or offering a coding bootcamp, visit
